Silvia Knittel
I am a high school English teacher at Langley Fine Arts School in Fort Langley, BC. I have been a founding director of Project Kenya Sister Schools since it began five years ago. I’ve also been involved in fundraising for Doctors Without Borders, the United Way, Amnesty International and Pacific Riding for the Disabled. I’ve traveled to Kenya three times with Education Beyond Borders, most recently in the summer of 2010.
Grandma Mary’s family is the most current and pressing campaign I’m involved in right now because the family is entirely dependent on our donations.

Dr. Alison Stuart
I received my doctorate in evolutionary biology and animal behaviour from the University of Toronto in 2000. Following this I completed postdoctoral fellowships in New Zealand and Kansas. This research took me to many locations around the world, allowed me to address a variety of scientific questions and exposed me to the beauty and complexity of numerous wildlife species. The desire to give young people the opportunity to be scientists in the classroom took me back to University to get an education degree and led me to teach science to junior high students. As I grew as a professional, I decided that I needed to give to a broader community and so in the summer of 2009 and 2010 I traveled to Kenya with the Education Beyond Borders team to help facilitate workshops with Kenyan educators. While in Kenya in 2009, I met Grandma Mary’s family, was taken by their situation and was immediately motivated to get involved to help all members of this family remain together and hopefully gain personal and financial independence. Upon my return to Canada in 2009, I joined Project Kenya Sister Schools because I believe so strongly that education has the power to change lives and I am now a director of this organization.
